Charly's Bar and Restaurante

 

I finally got to Charly's Bar and Restaurante in Granada, Nicaragua, after hearing so much about it.  I am not an expert on German food but I have eaten my share of it.  Charly's is the real thing...surprising, in fact, to find this gem of varied food in Granada.  There is a real variety of German food on the menu.  Dishes vary in price from soups for C$90 ($4) to sauerkraut pork chop and sausage plates for C$250 ($10.75). German beer (a dark version I drank for C$90 ($4) was particularly rich.  The surroundings are pleasing.  Great music in the background on some German based internet radio station playing all rock in English.  The service, by Charly himself, was great.  I will definitely be back.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Charly's get's a 9.

Después de escuchar tantos buenos informes, al fin pude ir a Charly's Bar y Restaurante en Granada, Nicaragua.  No soy experto en la cocina alemán empero la he probado bastante.  Charly's es de verdad...me sorprendió, de hecho, hallar esta gema de restaurante en Granada.  Hay una verdadera variedad de comida alemán ofrecido en el menú.  Precios de los platos varian entre C$90 ($4) para diferentes sopa hasta C$250 ($10.75) por platos fuertes como el sauerkraut con chuleta de cerdo y chorizo.  Una cerveza oscura alemana que costó C$90 ($4) fue particilarmente rica.  El ambiente es agradable...se escuchaba una emisora de radio alemana (por internet, seguro) que tocaba solamente música rock en inglés.  El servicio, por Charly mismo, era excelente.  Yo vuelvo, ¡¡¡claro que sí!!!

De 1 a 10, le doy un 9 a Charly's.

San Ramón, Ometepe

Here's three shots from a nice afternoon in San Ramón, Ometepe.  This is the starting spot to visit the famous San Ramón waterfall, one of the principal tourist destinations in Ometepe, Nicaragua.

El Arenal, Ometepe, Nicaragua

El Arenal is a great little place to bathe, just south of Mérida on the island of Ometepe, Nicaragua.  There are two islands right in front of the beach named Monkey Islands.  You can swim out, kayak or hitch a ride. 

El Arenal es un bonito balneario, justo sur de Mérida en la Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua.  Hay dos islas en frente que se llaman Islas de los Monos.  Podés nadar, kayak o pagar que te lleven.

On the coast of Mérida

Just off the coast of the small town of Mérida, on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua, you will find some charming views of Lake Nicaragua (or Cocibolca as it is known by the locals).

Afuera del pueblo de Mérida, en la isla de Ometepe en Nicaragua, encontrarás unas vistas encantadoras del Lago de Nicaragua (o Cocibolca por su nombre local).

Casa del Cafe - Las Galerías de Santo Domingo

La Casa del Café in the Galerías de Santo Domingo mall in Managua, Nicaragua, is a great place to have some good coffee and a nice desert.  It's one of the four different branches that Casa del Café has in Managua: the airport (leaving), Metrocentro and in Los Robles.  It's the newest and most modernly designed.  Definitely worth a visit!

La Casa del Café en Las Galerías de Santo Domingo en Managua, Nicaragua es un lugar donde conseguir un buen café y ricos postres.  Es uno de cuatro sucursales in Managua: el aeropuerto, Metrocentro y Los Robles.  Es el más nuevo y más modern en diseño.  Vale la pena visitarlo!

We went to one of our favorite places in Ometepe, Nicaragua, one of the three great biosphere reserves in Nicaragua.  It's called Ojo de Agua.  It is a natural spring that flows into natural and man-made pools.  Nice cool water on a hot sunny summer day in Nicaragua!  Ahhh, this is living!

Fuimos a unos de nuestros lugares favoritos en Ometepe, Nicaragua, uno de las tres reservas biósfera en Nicaragua.  Se llama Ojo de Agua.  Es un ojo de agua natural que fluye a unas piscinas naturales y artificiales.  Rica agua fresca para un día de verano caluroso en Nicaragua...esto sí es vivir!

La Omaja

La Omaja hotel and restaurant is a great example of what tourism in Nicaragua is all about these days.  Its excellent construction and quality details make it a really enjoyable jumping off point in your stay in the Mérida, Ometepe area.  From here, you can hike up to the lagoon on the Madera crater, go to the San Ramón waterfall and other island activities.  A full tour menu is available.  In addition to the quality lodging, with A/C and satellite television, a full service restaurant is also available on the premises.  Rooms start at $35 a night.  The meal, tilapia with garlic sauce, costs C$150 ($6.50).  This place is the best in the Mérida area, that I can guarantee.  Oh, and the views are marvelous!!!

El hotel y restaurante La Omaja es un muy buen ejemplo de lo que ha llegado a ser el turismo en Nicaragua.  Tiene una excelente calidad de construcción y atención a detalles – un lugar ideal para comenzar tus aventuras en la Mérida, Ometepe zona.  Desde aquí, podés escalar el volcán Madera a su laguna en la cima, ir a la cascada de San Ramón y otras actividades isleñas.  Una selección muy completa de turismo y tours está disponible.  Además de la calidad de hospedaje, completo con aire acondicionado y televisión por satélite, hay un restaurante completo en situ.  El precio del hospedaje comienza a $35 por noche.  La comida que probé, tilapia con salsa de ajo, cuesta C$150 ($6.50).  Este lugar es lo mejor en Mérida, esto te lo aseguro.  Oh, también las vistas son tremendas....

Buon Apetito - Ometepe

Francisco Obando has moved to a bigger and better locale in Moyogalpa, Ometepe.  You can still get the same great pizza and other Italian fare...now in even better surrounding.

Francisco Obando se mudó a un lugar más grande y 'más mejor', como dicen.  Todavía en Moyogalpa, Ometepe, está el nuevo local.  Sigue sirviendo la misma buena pizza y comida italiana...ahora en mejor ambiente.

Nectar in Granada/Nectar en Granada

We went to eat at Nectar with Kathy Seff this evening. The company was good! Nectar is located on the Calle La Calzada, about 1 1/2 blocks east of Central Park. It's the second time I've been here so I was moved to write about it. From 4-7 p.m. they have a happy hour (supposedly they 'double' the drinks). You can see some tall Mojitos in the picture (about C$50 - $2.40 each). Apparently they double them with water because they were quite weak. I would have settled for one decent one instead of the happy hour trick. Anyways....I ordered the lemon chicken fingers. They were good, served with potatos as seen in the pix. That there order cost C$80 ($3.80). One a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Nectar a 6. It is ok but nothing that I'd get a hankering for....sorry all you Nectarites!

Hoy fuimos a comer en Nectar con Kathy Seff. Buena compañía! Nectar está ubicado en Calle La Calzada, 1 1/2 cuadras al este del parque central. Es la segunda vez que he ido así que me animé a escribir algo sobre el lugar. Tienen su 'happy hour' de las 4 p.m. hasta las 7 p.m (supuestamente echan tragos dobles a las bebidas). Allí mirás unos mojitos en las fotos (C$50 - $2.40 cada uno). Por lo visto echan doble de agua porque las bebidas estaban bien aguadas....Mejor me hubieran dado una buena (pero de verdad) en vez de tal truco 'happy hour'. Ni modo...pedí los dedos de pollo al limón. Estaban buenos, servidos con papas como se mira en la foto. Cuesta C$80 ($3.80). De 1 a 10, le doy a Nectar un 6. Es aceptable la comida y servicio pero no creo que me den 'ganas' de volver...lamento decirlo a todos ustedes Nectaritos!!!!
